Walt Whitman, in his Leaves of Grass, says, "Do I contradict myself? Very well, then, I contradict myself." One of the first things you'll probably realize is that I might not fit your idea of the stereotypical DJ.
First off, my aim when DJing is to pull in the audience through whatever means I have on hand. If the music is enough, great. But sometimes that's not the case. In those moments I slip into a role that's equal parts showman, carnival barker, and pied piper.
Even though I've had music training of some sort since starting piano when I was 5, "music," per se, isn't my life. When it comes to your event, I'm first and foremost concerned with the quality of the performance. My emphasis over the entire experience over the music or dancing itself comes from my background as a theater major--I graduated high school from the North Carolina University of the Arts with a concentration in Drama--as well as the time I spent at UNC-Chapel Hill as a communications studies major who concentrated on performance studies.
What Does This Mean About Your Show?
I'm worried about more than just what songs I'll happen to play, and in what order. Yes, as a DJ, I'm always evaulating how to engage you and your guests on the dance floor, but more importantly I'm always thinking about how you and your guests will experience the event, and the memories you'll have years from now.
So, I'll regularly consult with you on how your event should flow to maximize your and your guests' entertainment. I'll react to what's happening and adjust what I'm doing to inspire the best possible mood. I'll orchestrate an enjoyable experience that bubbles up from the dance floor and becomes something "tangible" that you and your guests will carry beyond the party.
Beyond Being a DJ...
I'm also a writer with both fiction and non-fiction publishing credits, and I run a second company that develops story-based, or narrative, marketing products and campaigns. I'm a proud North Carolina native, though people are also surprised by this because I don't often have an accent. I'm married to my high school girlfriend, who is an English lecturer at NC State (note to self, be sure to proof this before posting...). And we're the proud parents of two exuberant boys and two (frequently) lethargic cats.
My Dirty Little Secret
You'll probably hear me listening to NPR more often than (fill in the blank) radio station. And I, apparently, quote Whitman (though not so often at shows).
I think that suffices. Although I've spent this time, and space, going on about myself, there's one thing I can promise you. When it comes to your event, it'll never be about me and my needs. As your DJ I'm there to give you the party that you've envisioned. Anything else is irrelevant.
The bulk of my gigs either come as referrals from previous clients or from people who've seen me at past shows. Still, many of my new clients have common questions about working with me.
To help answer some of your likely questions, please refer to the category list to left. Under each topic you'll hopefully find some helpful information.
Of course, if you don't see your question asked please contact me and I'll be happy to answer it and any others you might have.
Whether your event is a small wedding, an annual conference with attendees from across the country, a moderately-sized mitzvah party at your country club, or a simple backyard pool party, I'm able to cater my services and performances for your specific needs.
Standard Show Package - $1,000
My standard show is a basic performance package that includes:
- No travel fees for events within 2 hours driving time from my office
- Equipment setup and teardown time
- A full four-hour performance*
- MC services performed at your event
- Basic (up to six units) dancefloor lighting
- Full-range music library
- Two entertainement consultations
- One venue visit within a 30-mile radius of my office
I use this basic level of service as the starting point for all of my potential shows. So think of my standard show as a customizable, blank canvas that I'll use to create your perfect event.
The advantage of doing this is that it guarantees a basic level of service irrespective of your event type, size, or budget. Please note that the standard package is based on a 4-hour event. The fee is adjusted for events of a different length, or are scheduled in non-peak times. If your event fits this description, please contact me for a more accurate quote.

Think of entertainment planning as event planning, but focused solely on the dance floor. What this means is I'd plan every aspect of my performance--the music and dancing, lighting, additional entertainers, costumes and staging, etc.--to create the biggest possible party that your budget allows. This is the perfect upgrade option for anyone concerned about avoiding cookie cutter DJs and dance parties.
To purchase this upgrade, simply let me know of your interest.
If you're interested in purchasing accents for the latter part of your event, then purchasing separate upgrades is your best bet!

Sometimes, you want to make sure that every inch of your dancefloor is always packed and moving. In these cases you might want to include dancers and party motivators into your entertainment mix.
When I bring dancers to your event you can expect to see high-quality, professional dancers who will demonstrate and lead the hottest dances, expo their own street or club dancing styles, and possibly throw in a routine or two.
While party motivators are sure to dance, too, their aim is purely to add energy to your dancefloor, which they do by assisting in games, dancing group/line dances with your guests, and in general enjoying themselves on or off the dancefloor.
Whether your opt for dancers or party motivators, this upgrade is guaranteed to turn your party's energy level up several degrees!

For nearly a generation of kids, listening to your favorite music has been synonymous with watching television or online videos. As those music videos have transformed from bands simply performing in front of a camera into miniature hollywood productions, their entertainment values have increased with their budgets.
Adding music video projection to your event will give a similar infusion of excitement for your younger guests, as well as for some of your older partiers as I spin songs from the mid-80s through today.
Because my system allows me to manipulate music videos in the same manner as I do audio-only music, videos can be seamlessly integrated into your evening without fear of overpowering the rest of the fun.

The standard lights I include with my basic services fits the bill for most smaller-to-medium sized events. However, if your ideal party includes a larger light show, I'm also able to accommodate you.
The lighting upgrade includes everything from lasers and fog machines (where allowed by the venue), to special effect lighting and gobos, to environmental uplighting.
Exactly which types of lights you should include in your event varies with the size of your room, your events' theme, and what you're trying to accomplish. So, if you're interested in exploring what upgraded lighting could do for your event, please let me know during one of our early consultations.

Guests both old and young enjoy getting party favors during events. These items not only add energy to your party, they can also serve as momentos of your event and your cause for celebration.
I provide three levels of service when it comes to suppling giveaways:
I'm always happy to discuss these or any other ways I can help make your event truly your own. Please feel free to contact me to hear my thoughts and ideas.
